Stan Mack, renowned for his groundbreaking comic strip “Stan Mack’s Real Life Funnies” in The Village Voice, revolutionized the genre with his candid and insightful portrayals of everyday life in New York City. Now, with a large collection of his iconic strips set to be published by Fantagraphics in June 2024, the opportunity to explore his work has never been greater!
Joining Stan Mack are illustrators Steve Brodner, Victor Juhasz, and Rick Meyerowitz, each known for their unique contributions to the world of cartooning and illustration.
Stan Mack pioneered a documentary style of cartooning with his legendary New York comic strip “Stan Mack’s Real Life Funnies,” which ran in The Village Voice. A giant collection of those strips will be published by Fantagraphics in June 2024 and is available for pre-order now.
Mack’s other long-running comic strips include “Mule’s Diner” for National Lampoon, “Stan Mack’s Out-takes” (Adweek) and “Stan Mack’s RealMAD” (Mediapost.com). He is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and a former art director of the New York Herald Tribune’s Book Week, The New York Times Book Review, and The New York Times Sunday Magazine.
He’s written and/or illustrated a number of books including:

Rick Meyerowitz was a prolific contributor of both artwork and written pieces to the National Lampoon, for which he created articles on an astonishing variety of topics and themes. He painted the poster for “Animal House,” and created the Lampoon’s trademark visual, the “Mona Gorilla,” which has been called “one of the enduring icons of American humor.”
Shortly after the attacks of 9/11, Rick and Maira Kalman created “New Yorkistan.” A memorable New Yorker cover, about which, the New York Times wrote: “When their cover came out, a dark cloud seemed to lift.”
The lifting of one dark cloud will hardly put a dent in the pall hovering over us these days but it’s nice to think it could.
Victor Juhasz has been illustrating since 1974 while still a student at the Parsons School of Design. He’s enjoyed straddling the world of the serious and humorous throughout his career. Major magazines, newspapers, television, advertising agencies and book publishers (adult and children’s), both national and international, have commissioned his caricatures and illustrations. He is also a reportorial illustrator whose embedded visual documentation of soldiers and Marines in training, combat, and rehabilitation from wounds received in combat are part of the permanent collections of the USAF, the National Museum of the Marine Corps, and the Society of Illustrators in New York.
Victor’s work is also part of the permanent collections of the Society of Illustrators, The Norman Rockwell Museum and the Brinton Museum in Wyoming.
Victor serves on the executive board of the Society of Illustrators, NY. He is the recipient of gold and silver medals from the Society as well as the prestigious Arthur William Brown and Hamilton King awards. He is also the recipient of the Col. John W. Thomason award from the Marine Corps Heritage Society for his visual documentation.
Steve Brodner is an award-winning caricature artist, political cartoonist, educator, and author; publications such as The New York Times, Esquire, and The New Yorker feature his work. The 2011 Gold medal in the editorial category from the Society of Illustrators counts among his many accolades. He currently lives in New York City where he teaches at the School of Visual Arts and the Fashion Institute of Technology.
