Medium: Mixed media - all components are illustrated with watercolors, gouache, pencils, crayons, and more. Then the artwork was scanned into Photoshop, where I did some minor cleaning-up to add the book text.
This is an illustration from my self-written and illustrated Dutch picture book ‘Help! Een verrassing!’ (‘Help! A surprise!’) that was published in March 2022 by Uitgeverij Lemniscaat. I always start my illustrations on a big watercolor paper sheet using multiple art materials like gouache, watercolor, crayons, pencils, etc., before scanning it in when I’m happy with the artwork. In Photoshop, I touch up the illustration (when needed) to make it optimal for adding the final picturebook text, and in other cases, I would add separately painted elements to optimize the composition.
