This is a DVD & BLU-RAY package cover illustration for The Funeral by Juzo Itami. The client was interested in how the film contrasts ritual formality with the messy reality of human lives. They are particularly drawn to the meal scene where Itami divides the composition between the shrine, which is all right angles and orderly shapes, and the people eating, drinking, and talking in the foreground. So I created the image accordingly.
