Hoppy: Children's Day
Medium: Marker & Digital (Adobe Photoshop)

An illustrated poster made in collaboration with Hoppy to celebrate Children’s Day (Kodomo No Hi) in Japan. On this day, families raise the koinobori, a carp-shaped windsock — because of the Chinese legend that a carp that swims upstream becomes a dragon and flies to Heaven — with a black carp for the father, a red or pink for the mother, and one carp in various colours for each child. These streamers are meant to celebrate the perseverance, vitality, and health of Japanese children.

The artwork is meant to celebrate the durability of family ties, constant concern for the welfare of children, and the never ending invention of tradition.
