A portrait of Farkhunda Muhtaj, captain of the Afghanistan women’s national football team, who played a pivotal role in navigating the safe evacuation of 26 young female Afghan players and their family members (80 people in total) as the country fell back into the hands of the Taliban. The colors and emblems in the illustration reference the flags of Afghanistan and Portugal, where the girls and their families landed safely after a month of clandestine efforts and tense negotiations.
