Danica Roem, for the cover of Burn The Page
Medium: Sumi Ink, Graphite, & Digital Color
In a nod to the covers of 90’s metal music magazines, this portrait illustration depicts Virginia State Delegate Danica Roem, kinetic, amid swirling embers and cinders, and representing the LGBTQIA community with a signature rainbow bandana. Made for the cover of her book Burn The Page, the illustration was created using sumi ink washes and graphite pencil drawing on watercolor paper, finished digitally with an application of color in Adobe Photoshop. Danica was elected to represent Virginia’s 13th district in 2017, being the first out-and-seated trans state legislator in American history, where she continues to serve her district today.
