SATURDAY PICTURE BOOK SPOTLIGHT with Original Art featured author illustrator Azadeh Westergaard

Meet Iranian-American author and illustrator, Azadeh Westergaard. She will read to us from her latest picture book, The One & Only Googoosh: Iran’s Beloved Superstar (Viking/Penguin Random House), which shares the truly remarkable life story of the legendary Iranian musical icon, Googoosh. Azadeh will also give us a behind-the-scenes look at her illustration process and show us some of the original pieces from the book. All art materials and a signed copy of the book are included. Good for ages 5 and up.

$35 includes admission and workshop (including signed book and art supplies) for 1 adult + 1 child.  One book per family. Additional siblings are $10/each. 

About the Artist

Azadeh Westergaard (aa-za-dé) is an Iranian-American bookmaker and picture book collector based in New York City. She is the author and illustrator of The One & Only Googoosh: Iran’s Beloved Superstar which received star reviews from Publishers Weekly and Kirkus, and was selected for inclusion in the 2024 The Original Art Exhibition at The Society of Illustrators. She is also the author of A Life Electric: The Story of Nikola Tesla (illustrated by Júlia Sardà) which has been translated into several languages and received recognition as a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection, Bank Street College of Education’s Best Books of the Year, and Booklist Editor’s Choice. Her multi-dimensional mixed-media illustrations incorporate tea stained paper with hand-carved stamps, block-printed patterns, paper collage, hand-sewn elements, and pen & ink.
