SATURDAY PICTURE BOOK SPOTLIGHT featuring author and illustrator Steven Guarnaccia

$10.00 – $35.00The Society of Illustrators welcomes acclaimed author and illustrator Steven Guarnaccia for a look at how he creates his wonderful books.
NOTHING IS REALLY SOMETHING! In this workshop, you will create drawings and objects for your very own Museum of Nothing, inspired by the picture book, The Museum of Nothing, by award winning author and illustrator Steven Guarnaccia, published by Minerva. The Society of Illustrators will provide materials, but we suggest you bring along your favorite blank book, empty bottles, boxes and cans, and any other things that you think would make a great souvenir of the Museum of Nothing! $35 includes admission and workshop (including signed book and art supplies) for 1 adult + 1 child. One book per family. Additional siblings are $10/each.
Steven Guarnaccia is an illustrator and Professor Emeritus of Parsons School of Design. He was formerly Op-Ed art director of the New York Times. He has worked for major magazines and newspapers including the New York Times, Abitare and Rolling Stone and has created murals for Disney and exhibition drawings for the Museum of Modern Art. He is the author of books on popular culture and design for Chronicle Books, including Black and White and A Stiff Drink and a Close Shave.
He has designed watches for Swatch and greeting cards for MoMA, won awards from the AIGA, the Art Directors Club, and the Bologna Book Fair and has had one-man shows internationally. His children’s books include The Three Bears: A Tale Moderne, The Three Little Pigs: An Architectural Tale and Cinderella: A Fashionable Tale, all published by Corraini and Abrams. His latest children’s books include The Story of Pasta, a book of pasta lore and recipes, published by Phaidon and The Museum of Nothing, published by Minerva.
His exhibition, Fatherland, was shown at the Hamelin Gallery and has traveled to the East London Comic Arts Festival, the Barcelona FLIC festival, the Ministerium fuer Illustration/ Berlin, the Tabook Festival and to Yui Gallery, NY.
