Virtual Saturday Stories Featuring Author and Illustrator Saki Tanaka
December 21 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am
Presented monthly, Saturday Stories invites guest illustrators to lead children and their adult companions in a read-aloud workshop related to the wide range of materials and processes that illustrators use to create their picture books.
Join Saki Tanaka for a virtual studio tour, an illustration demo, and reading of her debut picture book, Between Words: A Friendship Tale. This fantastical reimagining of Saki’s transient childhood was inspired by the triumphs and heartbreaks she encountered on her journey as an outsider, and is an ode to connection that overcomes language barriers, celebrating acts of kindness that foster global citizenry. Saki will share how her journey of creating this book overlapped with the discovery of her own path as an artist, and demonstrate the techniques she used to illustrate the wordless underwater scenes in her book. Grab your materials (watercolor paints, watercolor paper, colored pencils) and follow along as Saki plays with glazing, wet on wet painting, blooms, and salt lifting to create magical landscapes we can escape into!
Good for all ages 5 and up.
