The Society of Illustrators Celebrates the Year’s Best Student Work
and Recognizes John Hendrix with the 2024 Distinguished Educator in the Arts Award
The Society is proud to further its mission of supporting and preserving the art and history of illustration through educational and social programming, with its continuation of the prestigious Student Scholarship program. This scholarship program offers financial support to college-level students, as well as promotional opportunities to help them establish careers in illustration and comic art.
This year’s show features over 200 works chosen from entries submitted by professors of illustration and animation students nationwide. Students entered their most sophisticated, well-crafted and original work to be judged, and a jury of professional peers, including illustrators and art directors, selected the most outstanding works created throughout the year. Work is juried into the competition based on the quality of technique, concept and skill of medium used. In addition to an exhibit and catalog, thirty six students are awarded financial support from the show. A full list of accepted students is available to view on the Society’s website, and a virtual gallery featuring student’s work along with links to their online portfolios, will be available to view in May 2024.
On Friday, May 10th, the Society of Illustrators invites students and their families and friends to celebrate the year’s best illustrations with an Awards Ceremony and Reception! Works will be on display in the third floor Garden Gallery from May 8 – June 8, 2024. More details can be found here.
In addition to celebrating students, the Society of Illustrators is pleased to bestow John Hendrix with the 2024 Distinguished Educator in the Arts Award. This award honors an educator who has attained the highest standards of academic achievement and impacted the illustration field as both a teacher and artist.
