A Tiger Year Yusheng

This tiger year, which follows two rather isolating years, I wanted to create an image that celebrated the thrill and joy of eating Yusheng, a salad dish that Singaporeans relish during Chinese New Year. Prior to the enthusiastic communal tossing of the salad (also known as Lo Hei), the ingredients of shredded carrots, cucumber, fish slices and various condiments are often arranged to resemble that year’s zodiac animal. Using Procreate to illustrate, I exaggerated the lively experience of eating Yusheng and also composited textures to add tactility to the artwork so that it could capture the energy of this gathering.
