Counting In Dog Years and Other Sassy Math Poems
Medium: Gouache (with hand lettering done digitally in Photoshop)

These gouache illustrations were made for a collection of math based poems written by Betsy Franco. To help kids navigate each poem and move with ease from one to the next, I developed a world of Number robots that live alongside a diverse cast of children and creatures, in a setting that is inspired by a unique neighbourhood in my hometown. Pulling from math model drawing approaches, I also sought to create illustrations that could represent abstract concepts like fractions and number sequences in visually concrete ways.
