The intention behind ‘Melee’ was to feature as many of the imagined creatures and characters that exist and could exist in the fantasy world created by Andrew Orvedahl, of Occupied Hex. I submitted a sketch with a bottom-up point of view to engage the viewer, as my goal was to differentiate the typical lone figure or static character scene which generally adorns fantasy novels and RPG books. The multiple red lances are used as a design element to lead the eye, a compositional element borrowed from Edwin Austin Abbey and Frank Craig.
