This cover illustrates the story written by Andra Hannah that takes place in a rural town in the United States. Strange and mysterious forces have a sinister influence on the sunflower plantations in the area.
Olga Grlic, art director of Wednesday books contacted me with the suggestion to portray the main character of the book in a macabre and insidious atmosphere under the effect of sunflowers and a dark force.
I took several photos of vegetables in my kitchen to achieve the textures of the face (radish roots, green peas, and dried leaves) and painted the intricate stems digitally. Some textures were painted and scanned to create more richness in the image.
