Virtual Saturday Stories featuring OA Gold Medalist Felicita Sala

Presented monthly, Saturday Stories invites guest illustrators to lead children and their adult companions in a read-aloud workshop related to the wide range of materials and processes that illustrators use to create their picture books.

Meet award winning illustrator Felicita Sala in her studio in Rome. Felicita is The Society of Illustrators 2023 Original Art Gold Medal winner for her incredible,vibrant, lively Illustrations in As Night Falls, Creatures That Go Wild After Dark written by Donna Jo Napoli. Felicita will share a behind the scenes look at her illustrations, inspirations, art materials and her process and read her wonderful book. Participants will create an exciting tiger illustration adding smaller and smaller animals inside.This can be a cut paper collage or a drawing. Suggested materials are colored paper (2-3  colors and black),some white sheets of paper, colored pencils and/or crayons, scissors and glue. Visit Felicita at felicitasala.com

Felicita Sala was born in Italy but grew up in Australia and after college moved back to Italy.She is inspired by nature, mid-century illustration,folk art and architecture,and her work has been published to starred reviews and international praise.One of her books ‘She Made a Monster’ How Mary Shelley Created Frankenstein by Lynn Fulton was a New York Times Best Illustrated Book. Her self authored book ‘Lunch at 10 Pomegranate Street’ Recipes for Kids from Around the World’,has been published in over ten languages.Mr.Crum’s Potato Predicament by Anne Renault was a Bank Street ‘Best Children’s Book of the Year’. In 2020 she won the Premio Andersen as best illustrator in Italy. She lives in Rome with her family.
