The Puerto Rican War: A Performance by John Vasquez Mejias

The Puerto Rican War is a performance of puppet’s marionettes and costumes based on the woodcut novelette by artist John Vasquez Mejias. It tells the true story of Puerto Rican revolutionaries fighting colonialism in 1950. 

John originally self-published The Puerto Rican War and it is being published in a new hardcover edition from Union Square & Co. Copies of the book will be available for purchase after the performance. 

John Vasquez Mejias’ woodcut comics are currently on view in the “Made in New York” exhibit at the Society of Illustrators until Saturday, May 4. 

Doors will open at 6:30pm and the performance will begin at 7:00pm. 

This event will take place in the Main Gallery. Bathrooms are only accessible via stairs.

REFUND POLICY

Tickets are non-refundable. Tickets may not be exchanged for another event. If you are unable to use your ticket, tickets may be converted to a donation by emailing info@societyillustrators.org.
