Drawing Pride: A Conversation with Jonah Newman and Nora Dåsnes

June 26 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

$7.00 – $15.00

Join us for an evening of celebration and storytelling, at Drawing Pride: A Conversation with Jonah Newman and Nora Dåsnes. They will be joined by moderator Alexander Lu, editor at Random House Graphic.

Dive into the vibrant world of graphic novels for young people with Jonah Newman’s Out of Left Field and Nora Dåsnes’ Cross My Heart and Never Lie. Both novels capture the complexities of young love and self-discovery. Jonah and Nora will read an excerpt from their graphic novels and share insights into their creative processes.

After the panel discussion, there will be an opportunity for a book signing with both authors. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet Jonah and Nora, get your books signed, and celebrate Pride through the power of Queer storytelling.

This event will take place in the Main Gallery. Bathrooms are only accessible via stairs.

Nora Dåsnes is a Norwegian writer and illustrator. Her first graphic novel, Cross My Heart and Never Lie, was immediately embraced by teen readers, librarians, reviewers, booksellers — and Alice Oseman, NYT Bestselling author of Heartstopper, who said “Reading this was like a warm hug.” It was named a New York Public Library Best Book, a Cooperative Children’s Book Center Choice and received the ALA Stonewall Award. Nora’s second middle-grade graphic novel, Save Our Forest!, will be published by Hippo Park/Astra Books For Young Readers on July 30.

Jonah Newman is a cartoonist and editor. His debut book Out of Left Field was one of Publishers Weekly’s top 10 most anticipated young adult graphic novels for Spring 2024. As an editor at Graphix, Scholastic’s graphic novel imprint, Jonah has worked with Dav Pilkey, Jamar Nicholas, Angeli Rafer, and many others. When he’s not creating, editing, or reading comics, Jonah enjoys playing in an LGBTQ+ softball league and getting way too invested in his fantasy baseball team. He lives in Brooklyn with his husband (who’s a human) and two kids (who are cats).

Alex Lu is an Editor at Random House Graphic. Previously, he was a Contributing Editor at First Second and worked with authors including Gene Luen Yang, Jen Wang, Zach Weinersmith, Boulet, and Thien Pham. He currently works on graphic novels for early readers through young adult titles, with a strong interest in stories with commercial series potential as well as coming-of-age, romance, humor, and contemporary/urban fantasy.

This program is being offered in collaboration with East Midtown PartnershipThe Publishing Triangle and Norwegian Consulate General New York.
