Comic Arts Workshop for Teens with Yinfan Huang

$30.00Meet New Yorker Cartoonist Yinfan Huang for a 90 minute Comic Arts Workshop. Students will learn about different comics genres and formats and how to create a quick and easy-to-read 4-panel comic from start to finish. Exercises range from making simple yet sophisticated 4-panel comics based on a prompt or theme to coloring techniques using watercolor and ink pen. Students will go home with a mini sketchbook filled with one or more finished comics they created using the skills they learned in the workshop and gain a better understanding of how to create relatable or humorous content that speaks to themselves and the people who read them.
REGISTRATION: $30, all materials included. Limited to 15 students.
Recommended for ages 13-14.
Yinfan Huang is a Chinese cartoonist and illustrator based in New York City. As someone born and raised solely in China, her gag cartoons and comics have been published in The New Yorker in print and online since 2020. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration from the MCAD. Her art has earned her critical acclaim, including a Silver Medal from The Society of Illustrators for her 4-panel comics and recognition in the American Illustration 35 Annual. She is the illustrator of the children’s book The Couch Potato and is working on her first graphic memoir, Yellow Singing Sail, which depicts her experiences growing up as a single child in mainland China. Yinfan lives in NYC with her two cats and two chinchillas.
This event will take place in the third-floor library and is only accessible via stairs. Bathrooms are only accessible via stairs.
