Hong Kong Willow Pattern Ceramics
Medium: Pen and ink. Ceramics are fine bone china with transfer printing.

I was commissioned to create a modern interpretation of the traditional Willow Pattern, out of urban Hong Kong elements, to be used on a local ceramic product range. I researched the locations to include, made correlations with the classic Willow Pattern elements such as a pair of birds, boats, trees and temples, so the overall design reflects the atmosphere of the city. My original Willow Pattern Collection was in blue and white, but this green and gold version was made as a special limited edition for the Lane Crawford department store to celebrate Chinese New Year. I drew the illustration by hand, scanned it, and created separate digital layers for the different tones of colour/ gold to provide production files for printing. I adjusted the shape and elements of the design to fit each separate product being made, compensating for 3D shapes.
