Since its founding in 1901, Society of Illustrators’ members have been visually documenting the activities of our armed forces, most notably through its partnership with the Air Force Art Program. In 1951, Society of Illustrators president and noted illustrator, Arthur William Brown accompanied a group of cartoonists on a tour of Cold War air bases and in 1952 arranged a 7000 mile tour with thirty Society of Illustrators artists.

This year the Society pays tribute to the service and sacrifice of the men and women of all our armed forces, showcasing images from past and present, in peacetime and war, on land, sea, and in the air; visual narratives of the routine and chaos experienced daily by those in uniform.
