SATURDAY STORIES: Illustrator-led Workshops for Children & Families: Live Workshop with Susie Oh at the Society of Illustrators
May 7 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm$10.00 – $25.00
Presented monthly, Saturday Stories invites guest illustrators to lead children and their adult companions in a read-aloud workshop related to the wide range of materials and processes that illustrators use to create their picture books.
Susie Oh will discuss the inspiration behind her book Soomi’s Sweater and share her own patch-worked and embroidered mending projects. After a demonstration of basic sewing techniques, workshop participants will practice easy stitches like the running stitch, back stitch, and whip stitch. They’ll use these stitches to patch together special mixed-media Mother’s Day cards. Workshop includes materials and a signed book per family, gifted by Clavis Publishers for this special program.
Good for all ages 5 and up.
This is an in-person workshop. RSVP required. $25 covers admission and workshop for 1 adult + 1 child. Additional children are $10/each.
About the Artist
Susie Oh immigrated from rural South Korea to New York as a child, and the city’s public libraries were largely responsible for selling her on the move. Her love of books inspired her to study illustration and teach ENL. She made her picture book debut with Soomi’s Sweater, which won the silver medal in Clavis’ 2020 Key Colors Illustrators Competition.
