SATURDAY PICTURE BOOK SPOTLIGHT: DOUBLE HEADER! Featuring Doug Salati and Nancy Armo

Meet award winning author and illustrator Doug Salati for a read-aloud and behind-the-scenes look at how he wrote and illustrated his vibrant and lyrical picture book Hot Dog. Following the themes of the book, participants will share the fun of imagining a great escape to a new place and experiment with ways to document that journey during his fun drawing workshop.
Meet acclaimed author and illustrator Nancy Armo for her show and tell presentation and reading of her heartwarming book about expectations and surprises, and a cat named Doggie. During her hands-on workshop participants will create their own paper 3-D cat and dog characters.
About the Artist:
Hot Dog is Doug Salati’s third book and his debut as author-illustrator. His first book was In a Small Kingdom by the late Tomie dePaola, and his second, Lawrence in the Fall by Matthew Farina, was a 2020 Ezra Jack Keats Illustrator Award Honoree, a Society of Illustrators Original Art Show selection and Junior Library Guild Gold Standard selection. He was a 2015 Sendak Fellow. He currently teaches in the undergraduate program at the School of Visual Arts. He lives and works in New York City. To find out more visit dougsalati.com.
Nancy Armo is an illustrator and children’s book author living on Long Island, NY. From her studio, she can see wild turkeys, rabbits, and deer wander across her backyard.
