Saturday Stories: Illustrator-led Workshops for Children & Families

James Ransome has illustrated over seventy books for children and family is the theme that runs throughout each. From his first book Do Like Kyla, to his most recent, The Bell Rang, (this year’s Coretta Scott King Illustration honor), James will demonstrate how he conveys family love through pictures for children.  Followed by a hands-on family portrait making activity using a variety of art supplies from paints to crayons, markers and pencils, James will draw with participants and read from his book, Do Like Kyla, a story about the power of sisterhood, friendship and family.  

Good for all ages 5 and up.

Acclaimed illustrator James Ransome’s newest book, The Bell Rang, which he authored and illustrated, has received four starred reviews is a Kirkus Best Book of 2019. James received his BFA  from Pratt Institute in New York and his books have garnered numerous accolades including Coretta Scott King Awards, a Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor,  ALA Notables, a Jane Addams Award and NAACP Image awards. James lives in Rhinebeck with his wife and frequent collaborator, author Lesa Cline-Ransome.

$25 covers admission and workshop for 1 adult + 1 child. Additional children are $10/each.
