SATURDAY PICTURE BOOK SPOTLIGHT featuring author and illustrator Qing Zhuang
May 13 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
$10.00 – $35.00Meet author and illustrator Qing Zhuang for an exciting and vibrant workshop! In “Rainbow Shopping“, a little girl and her mom go grocery shopping in Chinatown, where there are lots of interesting fruits and vegetables. Participants will make prints using hard vegetables, creating a picture by pressing an inked design onto a surface, like a stamp! In this workshop, Qing will give a behind the scenes presentation about herself, read from her book and share how to make beautiful illustrations, printing with different vegetables and using your imagination. All materials are included. Good for ages 5 and up.
$35 includes admission and workshop (including signed book and art supplies) for 1 adult + 1 child. One book per family. Additional siblings are $10/each.
About the Artist:
Qing Zhuang is a writer and illustrator of children’s books. She was born in China and grew up in New York City, where she is also a proud art teacher to elementary and middle school students. She currently lives in Queens with her pediatrician husband and brand new baby daughter!
Rainbow Shopping (Holiday House) is her first writer-illustrator project. Booklist called it “engaging”, Publisher’s Weekly called it “achingly real,” and The Horn Book says it “beautifully reflects how it feels to relocate to a completely different country and still try to feel at home”.
