Presented monthly, Saturday Stories invites guest illustrators to lead children and their adult companions in a read-aloud Zoom workshop related to the wide range of materials and processes that illustrators use to create their picture books.
Acclaimed illustrator Evan Turk will discuss his illustration process when researching, planning, and illustrating a book. He will take a deeper look at how he created the illustrations for “The People’s Painter: How Ben Shahn Fought For Justice With Art”, and lead an activity exploring the techniques of layering he used in the artwork. Participants will need masking tape, paper, a color medium (watercolor, gouache, colored pencil, marker), something to make black lines (gouache, oil pastel, crayon, marker).
