Virtual Saturday Stories: Monthly illustrator-led workshops for children & families: Featured Artist CG Esperanza

December 18 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

Presented monthly, Saturday Stories invites guest illustrators to lead children and their adult companions in a read-aloud Zoom workshop related to the wide range of materials and processes that illustrators use to create their picture books.

Join vibrant and dynamic author and illustrator, Charles George Esperanza as he shares his behind the scenes of how he creates his amazing artwork. He will present a live workshop drawing inspiration from his brand new book “Boogie Boogie, Y’all. Participants will create a graffiti style name piece similar to how graffiti artists create their signature name designs in their sketchbooks, before placing them on a wall. Create your graffiti piece based on your name, nickname or initials by mimicking the letters on the style sheet.

For this workshop you will need the graffiti style sheet (found clicking the button below), some pencils, some markers, and paper.

Good for all ages 5 and up.

About the Artist:
Born the second of six cool kids. The South Bronx is where he first opened his eyelids. A land shrouded in bright colored decay, the birthplace of graffiti and the hip-hop DJ! He paints fantasy worlds of elephants, and castles too! Bodegas, Piragua carts and psychedelic shoes. Charles has a voice that is seldom heard. A fusion of trumpets, Bomba drums, and chirping birds. This program is free to attend. Thank you to The Bruce J.Heim Foundation for supporting this event. Their generous gift and belief that books play a vital role in the development of a child’s imagination and dreams greatly aids our educational programming for K-12 students.
