Presented monthly, Saturday Stories invites guest illustrators to lead children and their adult companions in a read-aloud Zoom workshop related to the wide range of materials and processes that illustrators use to create their picture books.
James Ransome has illustrated over seventy books for children and family is the theme that runs throughout each. From his first book Do Like Kyla, to his most recent, The Bell Rang, (2019’s Coretta Scott King Illustration honor), James will demonstrate how he conveys family love through pictures for children. Followed by a hands-on family portrait making activity using a variety of art supplies from paints to crayons, markers and pencils, James will draw with participants and read from his book, Do Like Kyla, a story about the power of sisterhood, friendship and family. Good for all ages 5 and up.
This program is free to attend. Thank you to The Bruce J.Heim Foundation for supporting this event. Their generous gift and belief that books play a vital role in the development of a child’s imagination and dreams greatly aids our educational programming for K-12 students.
