2nd – 5th Grade After School Series

Series 1: Thursdays, February 6 – March 26 | 4:00pm – 6:00pm
Series 2: Thursdays, April 23 – June 11 | 4:00pm – 6:00pm

Children’s book author and illustrator, Clare Pernice will lead these illustration series. Participants will learn how to make a mini comic books, create a short picture book story with illustrations, design a greeting card, an animated puppet and digital art piece. The hands on classes will cover drawing with ink, brush, watercolor, collage and beyond. Basics of comics, picture books, sequential visual storytelling, creating characters, settings, exploring writing from fantasy to reality, panel layout, composition, lettering, inking and coloring. A gallery tour of the current exhibit with hands on drawing observation. The exciting series will close with a Student Art Show, a family reception and certificate ceremony. 

Born and raised in England, Clare Pernice’s passion for children’s books took root while influenced by her favorite local author Roald Dahl and her witty story telling father. Having an avid interest in art and design, she went on to graduate from London’s Central Saint Martin’s School of Art and has since designed, illustrated and exhibited works in Paris, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Charleston and New York. She has illustrated and written children’s books, designed clothes, toys, murals and created costumes and props for film and stage. 

The After School Series program for Spring 2020 is as follows:
8 workshops per series Thursday afternoons, 4-6 pm

Series One: Feb 6, 13, 20, 27 March 5, 12, 19, 26

Series Two: April 23, 30 May 7, 14, 21, 28 June 4, 11

After-School Certificate Award & Art Show: June 17

$590/ series (includes all materials and evening reception)
$500/ series with sibling or buddy discount
Limited to 12 students, RSVP required
