Pol Turgeon: Threshold of the Eye
December 4, 2008 through January 4, 2009

With a career spanning three decades and clients spread throughout North America and Europe, in a sui generis style Pol Turgeon creates artwork distinguished by its beauty, bizarreness and magic. The artist's illustrations have garnered over a hundred awards from around the world and have been reproduced repeatedly in a variety of prestigious design and illustration annuals: American Illustration, Communication Arts, 3x3, Print, the annuals of the New York and Los Angeles Societies of Illustrators.

Characterized by a grand polyvalence, the work of this virtuoso of images have been applied to a wide spectrum of original projects: the creation of a series of fantastic toy-sculptures, an illustration for an article by Vaclav Havel in the publication Utne Reader, the creation of a visual environment for the dance performance Quarantaine 4x4, an illustration for a promotional campaign by Sony in Spain and the list goes on. This world premiere retrospective at the Museum of American Illustration will exhibit over 140 works by Pol Turgeon, ranging from commissioned projects to personal work, featuring 95 original illustrations and 20 illustrated objects including 2 prototypes of his fantastic toy-sculpture series. The artwork will be accompanied by preparatory sketches. An extract from a video produced for Quarantaine 4x4 will be presented. As well 3 publications featuring the artist's work will accompany the show
