New Acquisitions
October 7 through December 31, 2008

New to the Permanent Collection, this artwork is now a part of the most comprehensive illustration collection in the world. Through generous donations by enthusiasts of the art of illustration, the Society has been able to expand its collection.

The stories of the artists' lives as illustrators are as interesting as the stories they depicted through illustration. This show includes such artists as Rose Cecil O'Neill, illustrator, author of gothic romances and the ingenious creator of the Kewpie doll; Tom Lovell, 1974 Hall of Fame inductee, created stirring images of the Old West as well as Civil War battle scenes so moving as to be telecast in the PBS documentary; McClelland Barclay, depicted the American beauty from flappers to film stars in opulent oils, manufactured decorative arts from his own firm and finally gave his life as Naval Lieutenant Commander in WW 2; Jean Leon Huens, 2002 Hall of Fame
inductee, known for his illustrious work for the Brussels newspaper TinTin as well as for children's book illustrations; Barbara Bradley, worked successfully in the 1950's when illustration was a male-dominated industry, specialized in expressive figures and well known for her depiction of children, sadly passed in 2008. These are but a few of the artists represented in this wonderful exhibit.

Thank you to the Permanent Collection Committee along with all of our generous donors whose passion for illustration has made this show possible.
