Stevan Dohanos (1907–1994)
Federal office muralist and American realist painter, Stevan illustrated covers for The Saturday Evening Post and other magazines. He created over 40 United States postal stamps and many Easter Seal stamps as he was a victim of tuberculosis himself. He helped illustrators enter the stamp world as designer for the Citizen Stamp Advisory Committee. A native of Cleveland, he called Westport, Connecticut, home. He was president of the Society of Illustrators from 1961–1963 and was elected to the Illustrators Hall of Fame in 1971.
“The piece that I entered in last years Our Own Show was subsequently purchased by someone who saw the exhibition. He has since purchased other pieces. As you can imagine, I am thrilled by the exposure my work has received at Our Own Show.” KAREN CHANDLER
