Works selected by the juries will be shown at the Museum of American Illustration at the Society of Illustrators, 128 East 63rd Street, from January 31 to April 28, 2007. The entire show will be presented in full color in ILLUSTRATORS 49, "America ’s Original Annual of Illustration." The 26th educational traveling exhibition, with a selection of 40 works, will tour U.S. colleges through June, 2008. |

ELIGIBILITY
Any illustration created or initially published between October 1, 2005 and October 1, 2006 that has not been accepted in the Annual previously, is eligible. International entries are welcome. Each submission will receive consideration by every member of the jury for its category. Please be certain that the original art will be available for exhibition and can remain at the Society from January through May 2007. High-quality prints will be hung in the case of digitally created or pre-separated art only. CATEGORIES All commissioned work whether published or not, should be entered in one of the first five categories: Sequential/Series, Editorial, Book, Advertising and Institutional. SEQUENTIAL/SERIES SEQUENTIAL Any multi-image project for which a sequence of images is necessary to fully convey an idea or story. Examples: work that has been produced or published as comic books, art journalism, graphic novels, pre-production art and animation (including television, film, web or video games). Individual images from sequential or series may also be submitted in their respective categories. Self-published projects must be published in a run of at least 500 copies. Children’s book entries should be entered in the Book category only, not Sequential. SERIES 3-10 Illustrations published together and related by theme or subject by the same artist. EDITORIAL Examples: work commissioned by newspapers or magazines, medical and scientific journals or online magazines. BOOK Examples: all illustrations originally commissioned for use inside or on the covers of hardbound and paperback books, including fiction and non-fiction; children’s and young adult literature and comic books. Promotional posters or advertisements depicting book art must be submitted in the book category. ADVERTISING Examples: illustrations for advertisements appearing in newspapers, magazines or on television; video and CD covers; brochures, fashion, point-ofpurchase and packaging illustration; movie and theater posters. INSTITUTIONAL Examples: work appearing on merchandise, announcements, annual reports, calendars, corporate projects, government service projects, greeting cards, newsletters, in-house publications, philatelic work and collectibles. UNCOMMISSIONED This includes all self-generated work such as portfolio samples, sourcebook ads and uncommissioned stock that are currently unpublished except as promotion for the artist or artist’s representative. Commissioned work appearing as self-promotion should be entered in the category for which the work was originally done. Note: there will be no art directors or clients credited for Uncommissioned works. DAVID P. USHER GREENWICH WORKSHOP MEMORIAL AWARD DAVID USHER founded The Greenwich Workshop in 1972 and long regarded illustrators to be underappreciated artists. As a publishing entrepreneur, David was an “artist” in his own right, as well as an adventurer, philanthropist and an enormously charismatic industry leader. This will be the fifth selection of this annual award. THE AWARD: An artist will be selected from work exhibited in the 49th Annual Exhibition who best exemplifies David Usher’s respect for craft, vision and personal style. CASH PRIZE: $1,000 will be awarded to the artist and consideration given to the creation of a print of the work with full royalties to the artist. |
